As a result of their feeding they leave behind very characteristic «footprint» - a mine. Mine is one of the main diagnostic characteristics during the identification of leaf miners. Mines can be classified according to the plant part on which they are found, horizontal and vertical position on leaf and shape of the mine. The shape of the mine is very characteristic for particular genera, families and orders of leaf miners. Leaf miners are very specialized in their choice of food, and this specialization can be considered from three different angles: which tissue of the plant is eaten, which organs of the plants are attacked and which species of plant is preferred | ||
