|a In this work, Damasio explores the biological roots of consciousness and its role in survival by linking body and emotion. Damasio approaches the mystery of consciousness by asking and answering such questions as: How is it we know what we know? and How is it that our conscious and private minds have a sense of self? Damasio examines current neurological knowledge of human consciousness, and argues that consciousness is linked to emotion and to feelings for perceived images.
